Can I use Pine or Alpine to access my employee Office 365 email account?
Yes you can! To access your Office 365 mailbox using Alpine or Pine please follow the instructions below. Please note that while these instructions refer to the Alpine email client, the same configuration changes are applicable to Pine:
- Log into whichever computer or device on which you are running Alpine.
- If you've never launched Alpine before, run the program to initialize it (create your mailboxes and preferences file).
- From your home directory, type pico .pinerc to edit your Alpine configuration file and change the following lines:
NOTE: Instances of FSUID@fsu.edu in the lines below must be replaced with your FSUID username in the format of @fsu.edu (e.g. replace FSUID@fsu.edu with jdoe@fsu.edu).
- disable-these-authenticators=PLAIN
- folder-collections={outlook.office365.com}INBOX.[], Exchange {outlook.office365.com/user=FSUID@fsu.edu/tls/novalidate-cert}[]
- inbox-path={outlook.office365.com/tls/novalidate-cert/user=FSUID@fsu.edu}INBOX
- feature-list=enable-dot-folders, enable-incoming-folders
- personal-name=YOUR NAME
- user-domain=fsu.edu
- smtp-server=smtp.office365.com:587/tls/novalidate-cert/user=FSUID@fsu.edu
- Exit the editor and re-launch Alpine.
- It will prompt you for your FSUID password.
